Imitation is not the sincerest form of flattery, it’s cheap. It hurts both parties: both the person who copies and the person/ people being imitated. The copier is denying themselves the ability to reach their potential and make real connections.
Imitation and being inspired are two different things. It helps if you pull your inspiration outside of your area of study. Example: You want to be an artist so you should pull inspiration outside of art. Watch films. Observe nature. Read!

Note: Copying is either an ignorant or blatantly rude thing to do. You’re taking something it took that person years to develop. Evolution based on personal experiences.
